I've recently been struggling with how to get it all done, between work, side projects, time for me, and then the other adult chores that come with living on your own. But tasks like writing and editing require time, usually a good bit of it, and dedicated time too. How do you carve out those hours when everyone else is pulling at you to get other things done?
Well I'm learning to put myself first, because it's just as important to dedicate time to my creative pursuits, and I certainly need to dedicate the appropriate time to my clients. They don't care that I may have a lot going on at my day job or I just decided to do my spring cleaning in August. They deserve 110% of my attention.
But when you brush all of the other obligations aside, and you can just sit with you and a laptop, the words on the screen, there is an other-worldly connection to language that I find and aspire to cultivate. Words used to come so easily to me. Now I comfort myself by reading others' words. But that's great...if I can ease back into my own voice by helping others find theirs...
